Model Pink Wedding Cake Part2

All about
..........................pink......................

Here's my next batch of model cakes for my new website!
I wanted something lovely and sweet for the brides to choose from so i went with this idea. The inspiration pretty much came from a couple of cake pictures i saw on flickr (i can't remember who and which site) but i'd just like to give credits them for the wonderful inspirations.

Corset Bridal Shower

When A first approached me to make this for her wedding cake, i was like yea, its easy, i can do this (although it's my first time making a corset cake) But during the process, i realized nooooooo, it was more challenging that i though. Not the decorating part but cake assembling part.

First was to get a pan big enough to bake a large sheet cake but somehow i couldn't find one that would satisfy the size i am after so i ended up baking 2 square 10 inches cake and put them together from there.

Second was to draw the outline of the corset onto the transfer paper. I kept getting either a too fat or too thin corset, nothing went the way i wanted it to be!
Lucky for me i had Jan over, i got her to do the drawing. She being the smart Jan that i always know used bowls to outline the perfect waistline for the corset! What a brilliant idea! (pats on Jan's shoulder) I wouldn't in a million years thought about that :P
Saved by Jan! We manage to get a perfect corset shape for tracing.  One big fear down!

Next fear was the how am i going to transfer such a long cake (which has a seperation in the middle and covered with meringue buttercream) to the cake board without it falling apart and destroying the spread????

Cake bases!!!!

Yes, i used a really large 12" round cake base, chopped off the sides to fit the corset and TA-DAH! problem solved. I must take credit for the brilliant idea *giggles*

All fear down!! Lastly was the decorations. I must say that it went rather smoothly,  after all i am a part time cake decorator righttt?? :p

Here's my final product! ( Special thanks to helper Jan again)
*Please excuse my bad photography, i haven't been having much luck with camera lighting recently.

Strawberry and Cake Pops Bonbonniere

Hello Everyone!
How's your week been?

Your question must be "What's been going on in the kitchen this week with Lilia? "

Well, basically i've been busy trying to get some ideas for H's bonbonniere. I can say that more things have been going on inside my brain than in my kitchen! *laughs*

H's wedding is not till Oct but I just thought i'll try out some of my ideas before presenting it to her. Also the fact that i can't wait to put my ideas into action.

H has requested for strawberries or cake pops as the bon-bon and her theme colors are red and white which helps match the strawberries color. We both liked the idea of having a tin pail decorated with either strawberries or cake pops and that also helps give the guest table a color boost. It's like a multifunction bon-bon. Table decoration and bon-bon as well! Definitely a $$ saving option :)

I've used several backgrounds in these pictures:-

Pink and Purple Christening Cake with butterflies

These are the picture i promised!

I practically did a all round 360 shot of this cake. A good way to make full use of my new Nikon baby ;p

I've used the roses i made yesterday as the topper with purple butterflies. What do u think of it? Leave me a comment and let me know!

I've been questioned several times on how the cakes are stacked and i thought i'll give a little insight on how i do mine :)

First we start by covering the board with fondant and use your favorite ribbon to cover the ends. The board will then look like this

Close up on the ribbon i used. I bought this from Lindcraft at the lace section. Like it? I think it gives it a very classy touch to it.

First i covered the bottom tier with fondant

I've use two dowels (they are actually really thick skewers which i called dowel) in insert them into your bottom tier like this

Then use royal icing to cover the skewers which also helps to stick the top tier to the bottom tier

Last step is to place your top tier on top of the royal icing bits

Fondant Modeling Fun

This is week, I'm working on a baby girl's christening and the theme is butterflies and roses! I found out that fondant modeling is pretty fun. Although it is a little time consuming but it was all worth it when i saw the end result :)

Oh yes! Did i mention that i finally got my hand on a D90? Yes! A brand spanking new SLR for my delight. I've been capturing heaps of pictures of everything and anything! :p
