Pink and Purple Christening Cake with butterflies

These are the picture i promised!

I practically did a all round 360 shot of this cake. A good way to make full use of my new Nikon baby ;p

I've used the roses i made yesterday as the topper with purple butterflies. What do u think of it? Leave me a comment and let me know!

I've been questioned several times on how the cakes are stacked and i thought i'll give a little insight on how i do mine :)

First we start by covering the board with fondant and use your favorite ribbon to cover the ends. The board will then look like this

Close up on the ribbon i used. I bought this from Lindcraft at the lace section. Like it? I think it gives it a very classy touch to it.

I've use two dowels (they are actually really thick skewers which i called dowel) in insert them into your bottom tier like this

Then use royal icing to cover the skewers which also helps to stick the top tier to the bottom tier

Last step is to place your top tier on top of the royal icing bits

Girl Christening Cake

My 2nd Christening cake in a week!
*phew! two down , two more orders to go for the coming week*

This time its for a gorgeous baby girl, Alexis. I totally adore her smile, its sooooooo CUTE!!!
(Let me remind you besides me being a cake craze, baking craze person, i LOVE babies! Sometimes, i find myself wandering in Pumpkin Patch looking at baby toys, clothes, shoes, they are SO tiny and cute) *I can't wait to have kids~

The theme obviously was all pink and white with teddies, exploding stars and baby blocks. How cute huh?
The cake is about 12 inch with an 8 inch top and my my, it was one heavy cake altogether. I would think its about 10kgs or even more!!!       *i might be a little exaggerating*
Big thanks for YOONG!! for helping me to mould the fondant and cover the massive 12inch bottom tier.
*claps! and hugs Yoong* I'm officially hiring him to be my fondant person :)

Fadi and Carla absolutely adored the cake! (Did i also mention that they are one very lovely couple?
I hope to see them again soon with baby 2! :p
The first tier of the cake (white chocolate with ganache) Yum!

I swear it WAS NOT easy making the blocks, it kept slipping cause it was so small and delicate. I had to be really really careful when covering the blocks. so far, it turned out not too bad

Madeira Cake Recipe a.k.a butter cake

I really really like this recipe. It's very moist and fluffy, perfect for cream cheese frosting, 7 minute frosting or my all time favorite! swiss buttercream from Smitten Kitchen

Madeira Cake Recipe (8" round, 7" square)
adapted by "the essential guide to cake decorating". I absolutely love this recipe!!! This is great for novelty cakes for kids~~ :p

Ingredients:~
250g softened butter
250g caster sugar
5 eggs
185g plain flour
60g self raising flour
1 tablespoon of milk
baking time: 1 hour and 25 mins

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees. Grease tin and line with baking paper.
2. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Add eggs one at a time. Then remove from mixer, add flour using a spatula or wooden spoon.
4. Lastly stir in milk.
5. Transfer batter to tin. Remember to smooth the surface by using a spatula or try dropping the tin several times on the hard surface to remove air bubbles in batter.
6. Bake for about 1 hour and 25 mins.
7. After baking, leave to cool in the tin for at least 5 minutes, before turning to wire rack to cool.

Later on, i covered the cake with white fondant to hide the flaws of my frosting :p
Ta-dah!
The finish masterpiece..

Beautiful Cake Pictures

I was just thinking the other day that i need a cake mascot to decorate my site. I've been looking for cake inspirations on cake blogs and somehow came across Faye and Greer .
They posted some really FANTASTIC cake pictures, mostly compliments from Kate Sullivan and Martha Steward. Here are some of my favorite pictures from Fave and Greer blogspot.
