Sugar Purple Orchid with white drapes wedding cake

Purple Orchid Wedding Cake

Here's my latest cake creation. The bride and groom are so friendly and lovely to work with! They picked red velvet with cream cheese frosting as their top tier, white chocolate mud as the middle and of course my favorite chocolate mud cake as the biggest bottom tier :)
This design was picked by the bride and she is a purple lover so we went with purple orchids and white drapes.

I didn't have enough time to take a good picture of this cake but i've requested some pictures of the wedding from the bride and groom. Will post them up once they get back from their honeymoon!

ps: my music on this site doesn't work anymore BOOHOO!!! anyone has any ideas how to fix it or any sites that provide music for bloggers?

Hello everyone!

Photobucket

I'm so *excited*!!! Its my first baking for a cause~~

This event is held every year and it is back celebrating its 16 year. The official date is Thursday 28 May, but we are allowed to host an event any time during May or June.
The aim is to reach $11 million! Money raised during this event will go towards Cancer Council research, prevention, education and support.

Although i will not be able host a morning tea myself but i have offered my services (baking of course!) to bake cupcakes for host/hostesses to serve with their morning tea event. :)

For those of you who don't know much about what Cancer Council do, here is a little summary:-
The Cancer Council's mission is to defeat cancer and they see research as playing a vital role.
Research is the key to finding answers to questions about cancer - what causes cell damage, why cells turn cancerous, how cancer grows and spreads and how we can most effectively attack it.
That is why they work closely with other cancer organizations in Australia to:
  • undertake and fund cancer research
  • prevent and control cancer
  • provide information and support for people affected by cancer
Also here is the link to check them out and ways of how you can help!
Hurry up and put on your apron to have a bake fiesta!

Dina the Dinosaur + Me and You

Hello again~
For the past two weeks, i have been attend a novelty workshop at cake decorating central. It was so much fun and i learn that to model using fondant icing, we need to use cmc/gum.  That was something new that i never knew! :p Now i can model my ribbons better and make funny figurings~
This is what i made at the workshop.

I've been looking high and low for a good modeling paste recipe and finally i found one and  made some sugar roses with the recipe. This recipe is adapted from the women's weekly cookbook with the title celebration cakes.
I made my roses with these recipe so gals, give it a try!

Modelling fondant:-

2 teapoons gelatine
1 1/2 tablespoons of water
2 teaspoons glucose syrup
1 1/2 cups (240g) icing sugar , sifted

Method
1. Sprinkle gelatin over the water in cup, stand cup in small saucepan of simmering water, stirring until gelatine is dissolve then add glucose.

2. Place half the icing sugar in medium bowl, stir in gelatine mixture. Gradually stir in remaining sugar, knead on surface dusted with icing sugar until smooth and elastic. Wrap tightly with cling wrap to prevent crack and drying out.

Taadah! Some roses i made
